Artist Lecture: Beyond/In Western New York 2010: Alternating Currents Artist Joshua Reiman
6 pm
Auditorium
Beyond/In Western New York 2010 artist Joshua Reiman will provide a view into his world and his work, which stems from his search “for the essence of what drives humans to great achievements, and tremendous failures.” Reiman’s site-specific project A Brief Inquiry, 2010, currently on view at Gallery, is a hauntingly beautiful experiential video installation constructed around the concept of “The Sublime,” and how it has become clichéd and overused in everyday vernacular. In the work, which was filmed on location during an artist residency in Iceland over the course of five weeks, Reiman portrays the quintessential explorer on a quest to find The Sublime, a moment so personal and so subjective, that his obsession to find it masks his immersion in it. The artist will discuss his installation, as well as other projects. Reiman lives and works in Ithaca, New York.
